Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen (1909–1957) was a Danish painter, writer, and theorist, recognized as one of the early proponents of surrealism and abstract art in Scandinavia. He studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau under Kandinsky and Klee, which profoundly influenced his artistic vision.
In the 1950s, he briefly collaborated with Rörstrand in Sweden, where he designed porcelain that reflected his strong artistic identity. His patterns often displayed geometric and symbolic motifs, rooted in his modernist and surrealist background. Though his work with Rörstrand was short-lived, it stands as an example of the postwar fusion between fine art and applied design.
